About Me

ILYA OKHOTNIKOV: Family science is similar to psychology & sociology, but "its primary goals are the discovery, verification and application of knowledge about the family"*. Its unique emphasis is on the role family relations play in shaping human experiences. These relationships are the units of analysis, for instance: husband-wife, parent-child & so on. Students learn with a greater depth about relationships such as life-course transitions, relational processes of divorce, stepfamilies, sexuality, managing family resources, child & human development, family conflict & violence, and more. Graduates find employment in the following areas: 1. Business, Consumer Family Resource Services; Government; Public Policy; 2. Community-Based Social Services; Faith-Based organizations; 3. Research; Education, including Early Childhood Education; 4. Writing; Communication; Education; Development; 5. Family Intervention; Healthcare and Family Wellness.
